A mixed media project by Monalisa Dutta.
Monalisa here and I am in the blog to share another pictorial with you all. Today I am sharing a step by step pictorial of creating a beautiful gift box with lots of embellishments on current month’s challenge i.e. ‘Festive Projects’. I hope you are all having a great day.
Before explaining about my work, I want to highlight the challenge of November month’s “FESTIVE PROJECTS”. Please do participate on our monthly blog challenge by clicking on the link and do visit to our blog to see awesome inspiration projects of our design team members.
I have created an upcycled gift box as an inspiration project for this month’s challenge. We give our loved ones lots of gifts and sweets for celebrating festivals but we know that handmade gifts are way better because there is some personal touch and emotion. So, I have altered a gift box with my personal touch.
Here is the details step by step tutorial on the same. Please have a look:
STEP 1. I primed the entire box with white gesso and then colored the upper lid with poppy red acrylic paint and acrylic soft gel. I went for bright red colour to give my project a bit of festive look.
STEP 2. Then I added scrapbook paper from ‘Colors of India’ 6”/6” paper pack. I chose two pages in contrast colors. I did some fussy cutting from second paper so that I can decorate accordingly. I covered transparent cover by red pattered paper and used big mandala cut outs on opposite corner.
STEP 3. Then I added few chipboards from my stash. First, I primed all chipboards with charcoal gesso then applied CrafTangles sapphire wax and mint coloured wax from my stash to give peacock colour on chipboards. I added big frame to cover the central paper’s border and added few chipboards on border. I embossed one flower chipboard with golden tinsel embossing powder and applied in the middle of the upper lid. I used Cadence 3d golden colour paint to decorate few portions of mandalas and flowers to give a little minakari looks.
STEP 4. I did some die cuts and used white cardstock from CrafTangles and embossed all die cuts.
STEP 5. I painted the border of upper lid with golden acrylic paint and did some stamping with red distressed ink and on top added few flowers and pearls along with die cuts.
STEP 6. On lower lid I added simple tissue paper roughly with glue and water to create texture.
STEP 7. I primed entire lower lid with charcoal gesso and after drying, applied sapphire and gorgeous gold wax to highlight textures.
STEP 8. I took out square portion from white cardstock of CrafTangles and painted with Indian yellow acrylic paint. Then applied red distressed oxide with damask stencil and added smaller mandala fussy cuts on opposite sides.
